Saju (Four Pillars) Branch Interactions Advanced

Adjacency Rule (Pillar Distance)

The Adjacency Rule states that interactions between stems or branches are strongest between adjacent pillars and weaken with distance.

What is Adjacency Rule (Pillar Distance)?

In Saju analysis, the four pillars are arranged left-to-right: Year → Month → Day → Hour. Interactions (combinations, clashes, punishments) between adjacent pillars (Year-Month, Month-Day, Day-Hour) operate at full strength. Interactions between pillars separated by one position (Year-Day, Month-Hour) operate at reduced strength (approximately 50-70%). Year-Hour interactions, spanning the full chart width, are weakest (approximately 30%). This rule applies to both Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch interactions. The Adjacency Rule explains why Day-Month relationships are particularly impactful — they're adjacent and represent self (Day) versus society (Month).

How TriAstra Uses Adjacency Rule (Pillar Distance)

TriAstra applies distance-based dampening factors to all pillar interactions, giving full weight to adjacent pairs and reduced weight to distant ones.

What Adjacency Rule (Pillar Distance) Means for You

Interactions between your middle pillars (Month-Day) are most powerful and shape your daily experience. Year-Hour interactions are background influences.
